Preparations to Refill NON-OEM 564, 564XL, 920, 920XL, 902, 902 XL ink Cartridges-Perform printer nozzle checks before opening your refillable cartridge to ensure your printer is in good working order. Please submit a copy of the nozzle check to your purchase receipt if your printer achieved a faultless result, since this will validate your warranty. Now you can begin installing your refilled cartridge.
How do I refill my HP ink cartridge?
- Repeat head cleaning if your printer prints with missing lines or uneven colors.
- If your second print looks similar to the first, wait 2-3 hours before performing another nozzle check.
- If the lines are still broken, repeat the head cleaning process and let it sit for 3-4 hours.
- It may require three to four head cleanings in some cases.
- DO NOT conduct more than three head cleanings in a row without allowing your printer to idle for a few hours in between.
- A damaged printer head is likely the source of your refillable cartridge error.
Follow the Step to refill cartridge.
Step: 1
- Install the silicone washer around the ink inlet first.
- Large volume cartridges leak ink around ink intakes due to a design defect by HP. Each ink inlet should have a silicone washer attached.
- Remove the original HP cartridge and look underneath the top of the cartridges for the ink intakes.
- Around the ink input, place a washer on the top of each black grommet (see picture). The black grommet should not be removed.
Step 2: Peel the yellow sticker off to reveal the air vent opening. In order for the cartridge to be vented while printing, make sure the hole is not blocked by adhesive.
Step 3: You can skip this step if your cartridge comes with a chip.
If you choose to transfer the OEM chip manually, we cannot stress enough the importance of TAKE YOUR TIME WITH THIS STEP! Take a look at the chip in your hand. It’s possible that you won’t be able to remove the chip without harming it if it’s a half chip (right).
- With a full chip (left), gently insert an Exact a knife or razor blade underneath the chip on the original cartridge and rock it back and forth until there is a small space between the chip and the cartridge.
- After that, “slip” your knife under the chip. The chip should not be bent or cracked. Continue sliding the blade to loosen any remaining adhesive on the chips back until the chip comes free from the cartridge.
- The glue left on the chip is usually sufficient to connect it to the target cartridge. As needed, use (thin) double-sided tape or adhesive.
- Do not use too much adhesive. Because you may need to alter chip position later, avoid using superglue. Gently press the copper section of the chips down (do not touch the black part) to ensure that they are all secure.
How to refill ink cartridge using syringe
Step 4: Replace the orange protection clip to prevent the cartridge from leaking during the filling process. Remove the L-shaped color plug and fill the cartridge to about 60% with a syringe. Replace the L-shaped plug. The refill hole (L-plug) should now be closed, while the air hole (yellow tape) should be open. Place the cartridge on its side. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the pressure to be balanced in the cartridge.
Step 5: Turn off your printer’s “chip info.” When the number of pages printed on a chip reaches a certain threshold, the printer stops printing. This must be turned off:
Printers with LCD screens:
- Select cartridge chip info from Control Panel -> Setup -> Preferences. Turn off the usage data.
- The chip information is now refer to as “Anonymous Usage Storage” in the latest HP firmware.
- Navigate to Setup->Tools. Do you notice “Anonymous Usage Storage” if you scroll down? If you notice it, turn it off. If you don’t, the chip information has already been disabled.
- You might try resetting the factory defaults to see if the option reappears (when chip info is on).
On printers without an LCD, press and hold the Resume and Network buttons on the control panel until the ink cartridge lights flicker, around five seconds, and then release the buttons.
Step 6: Remove the orange protection clip from the cartridge and immediately insert it into the printer. Wear gloves since ink may flow during this procedure.
You may have introduced air into the print head during installation if the printer does not line up or print stripes. You can run a cartridge cleaning cycle, then let it sit for 24 hours before printing again. By then, air bubbles should have been discharged.
Troubleshooting
After installing CISS, my cartridge monitor still shows “empty.”
Ignore the low or empty cartridge warnings and continue printing. Even though the printer’s ink levels appear to be low or empty, the cartridge is full and will produce a full yield. Regardless of these warnings, the printer will continue to operate.
“Missing or damaged” appears on one or more cartridges.
The printer does not detect the chip. The chip is either misaligned or has been destroyed. Remove the defective cartridge, inspect it, clean the chip surface, and reinstall it. Remove working cartridges before transferring. To save money, buy a remanufactured cartridge on eBay or Amazon (make sure it comes with the chip).
